Editorial Review for San Ysidro Ranch – by Gayot.com
The Scene
This property is more of a retreat than a resort, and it's certainly more luxurious than the term "ranch" implies. Its sprinkling of cottages populate a park-like rural setting on 500 acres tucked into the foothills above Montecito, home to numerous upscale shops and restaurants.
The Details
It's easy to see why the young, newly-rich-and-famous come here. There's a wonderful country feel to the cottages, which include decks, outdoor hot tubs and wood-burning fireplaces. If you have the big bucks, you can sleep in the two-bedroom cottage where Jackie and JFK honeymooned and where today's Hollywood stars escape to get in touch with nature. Along with peace and quiet, guests will find tennis courts, a spa, acres of flowering gardens and two superb restaurants, Plow & Angel Bistro, and Stonehouse, which is located in a 150-year-old stone building.

We have traveled far and wide, but this little gem is the cream of the crop. We stayed there for a few nights when our house was being remodeled, it was a bit of a treat, and has become a yearly one now for some time. Personal stationary and chocolates, outdoor jacuzzi, amazing food. This place is to die for!!
Pros: everything about this place is perfect
Cons: to expensive to stay longer that a few nights

True weekends are quite. This is place is under major construction with plenty of noise during the weekdays. The constuction starts around 8:00 AM and goes until 6:00 PM, Monday-Friday. There are bull-dozers and large earth movers. The restaurant is not open and no one would give me a date when it will open. Also there is no room service, which is way to bad considering you are in this nice room and you have to get dressed and walk to a less than equal building down the hill. It is only a sub-par continetal breakfast. The average rates are hovering around $1,295 for a good room, some around $1,000 and old room for about $700. We were told that another constuction phase will begin in the fall of 2006 and last into late 2007. Until then, try Montage or Bel-Air, unless you don't mind construction noise.
