Editorial Review for The Laundry – by Kara Zuaro

In Short
Home is where the heart of this restaurant is. Since it opened more than two decades ago, the unpretentious spot has welcomed natives and vacationers with the warmth of two fireplaces, a bustling bar and a stand-out New American menu showcasing local fish and produce. Cutchogues's Satur Farm offers the salad greens, and East Hampton's Lacono Farm provides the roast chicken. Seafood--such as fresh-shucked Montauk oysters--is also harvested from the local waters.

Insider Tips

Know Before You Go

Reservations are strongly recommended throughout the summertime and are essential on summer weekends.

When to Go

While many East End restaurants cut down their hours in the off-season, the Laundry remains open for all but three days each year--Thanksgiving, Christmas and the Wednesday after Labor Day.

The Extras

The four-acre property features an additional venue to host and cater special events, even when the restaurant is in full swing.

I don't write many reviews, but this restaurant that has a 1 to 2 hr wait and alll the buzz associated with it is just plain awful. It was a Saturday night, everyone at our table ordered clam chowder. Only one out of the 6 came out and was cold. We were told the rest would come out shortly, utimately arriving 15 minutes later. I ordered the halibut, and out of the kitchen came a cold piece of white tasteless mass, bearing 1 tiny littleneck clam, no capers, a half a grape tomato and two quarter in square pieces of bacon all of which the menu boasted. When I compained that there were hardly any of the items on the plate that the menu boasted the waiter came out with a bowl full of bacon to put on my fish. This place was truly truly dissapointing.

Pros: Great interior, nice patio

Cons: Food, Food, Food

Ms. Zuaro: It is Iacono chicken, not Lacono. The service is great, so is the fixed price special during the week.
